Q&A WITH

AUDREY DUNLAP

Audrey for blog

What were you doing prior to attending EFA?
Before attending Eric Fisher Academy, I was a student at Southwestern Oklahoma State University. I was there for two years studying health science and pre-dental hygiene. I also waited tables at a restaurant.

How did you decide to make the switch to cosmetology?
The further I got into my college education, the more I realized that I didn't have the passion for the career I had chosen for myself. After much contemplation and with tons of support, I made the decision to pursue cosmetology. It has been the best decision I've made and so much good continues to come my way from doing something that I'm so passionate about.

Why did you choose Eric Fisher Academy?
I chose to attend EFA because I love the environment here — we are continually surrounded by so much positivity! The students and staff here truly care and are always pushing you to do better.

What has been your favorite thing to learn so far?
My favorite so far would have to be color. To my surprise, color was a little trickier than I thought it would be. I love how there are so many variations of a color and how we are able to customize colors based on our clients' previous color and hair history. Who knew it could be so complex? I absolutely love it, though!

Tell us about your present and future career goals.
I have recently secured a position at Fringe Salon here in Wichita, KS as an associate! The program is perfect for me because I can take clients while simultaneously learning from a leading stylist at the salon. After completing the cosmetology program at EFA, I would love to grow as a stylist and build my clientele at Fringe. I would also like to build my skills so I can specialize in bridal make-up and updos. Education doesn't stop once you graduate!

Do you have any advice for anyone interested in a career in the beauty industry?
This is an industry full of fun and change. It's hard to get bored with this career! Being open to new education and opportunities is key. You do have to be willing to put time and hard work in to be the best you can be, but it's very rewarding.
